10 TERRIFYING Enemies From Children's Video Games
5. Etrian Odyssey IV - World Map Dragons
Dragons can be an impressive threat within any video game, but within Etrian Odyssey IV, this enormous enemy first appears unexpectedly. This first appearance occurs as the player's band of explorers are encouraged to map out the over-world.
Whilst experienced players may be able to gauge the full extent of the danger, newcomers to the series may still be adjusting to the controls and accurately mapping out larger areas, as they are suddenly thrust into avoiding a dragon that could erase this progress.
Unlike regular FOEs within the series, which are marked on the map, this dragon's approach is signified only by a warning text box, as it appears on the map and starts flying across it. The player cannot fight the dragon at this point, but is forced to fly away, a stressful enough cause of action, without the dragon being significantly faster than your explorers.
Depending on where the player is located when the dragon first emerges, sheer bad luck can result in explorers being flung back to town, HP depleted and hard-earned supplies lost.
Players must make calculated estimations regarding how best to steer clear from this dangerous enemy, taking its erratic flight patterns into account and hoping for the best.
