10 Terrifyingly Dark Implications In Otherwise Cheerful Video Games
8. The Dead Children Pokémon - Pokémon
As much as Pokémon is perhaps one of the most child-friendly franchises around, it's also one that has some supremely disturbing stuff lurking just below the surface - but that you could totally avoid if you simply happened to not read Pokédex entries.
One of the strangest trends that the series concerns one kind of creature that appears again and again: Pokémon revolving around child death.
Things start out tame in the first gen, where Kadabra was said to be a boy who turned into a Pokémon randomly overnight - but it wasn't long before child spirits became collectable creatures.
Phantump is the spirit of a dead child. Drifloon kidnaps and presumably kills children by lifting them up and away into the sky. There are a frankly unnerving amount of Pokémon that have their descriptions specifically involve either child endangerment or their outright deaths.
Though Pokémon are sort of depicted as enjoying battling and getting stronger, you're going to be put off training a creature that is literally the spirit of an infant, because that does somehow feel way more messed up. Then again, learning Hyper Beam as a child would have been the most rad thing ever, so maybe they really don't mind.
