10 Things All Modern FPS Video Games Get Wrong
6. Hard-To-Spot Enemies
With enemy AI improving more and more, it would be boring if enemies just came straight at you just waiting to get shot, so engaging in gun-battles with hostiles hiding behind cover and strategically attacking you is what makes the first person shooter genre entertaining.
In too many FPS games you can end up dying repeatedly because you get shot by an enemy whose colours have merged with the wall behind them, making them virtually invisible.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare includes several battles that take place floating around in space. Trying to spot enemies in black - in space - floating around debris and in front of giant spaceships would be almost impossible if not for the markers that appear above their heads (if you happen to aim in their direct to mark them first). Not being able to spot enemies is made worse by the fact that will always be able to spot you. If you enter their field of vision, regardless of angle or distance, they’ll still be able to hit you.
Intelligent enemies that provide a challenge are great. Enemies you can’t even see because their bland uniforms have blended into the equally bland background? Not so much.
