10 Things Capcom Wants You To Forget About Resident Evil

7. The Backstory Has Become A Jumbled Mess

It's a bad sign when casual gamers are lost in the world you're trying to create. That's the situation Capcom find themselves in, because they've built a convoluted story with so many branching plot lines. It's not easy to follow anymore, and that's not meant in a positive way. The original tale, one revolving around the evil Umbrella Corporation, had merit, but it's been tinkered with too many times. There are so many different strains of the original T-Virus floating around in the lore that it's often hard to keep track of which is which. Each game, book and film has discussed different ones, it's not exactly the most simple or engaging series to become invested in. For example, there's the G-Virus, tG-Virus, NE-T Virus, and the grand daddy of them all, the Progenitor Virus. As if all those different strains weren't enough, there have been ones created for specific titles, such as the t-Veronica Virus for Resident Evil: Code Veronica. It's all a little elaborate, and not really told all that well. Even as a seasoned fan of the series, it can be difficult to explain the clear differences between many of the plot points, it's like a labyrinth of confusing information. Capcom, for their part, seem unwilling to tackle this head on and sort it out.
