10 Things Everybody Hates About AMAZING Video Games
5. The Checkpoint System - Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is often held up as one of the greatest Star Wars games ever made, but only if you're willing to accept the head-scratching, Soulsborne-esque checkpoint system.
Players are able to rest at meditation points strewn throughout each world, which seems simple enough, except that in addition to restoring your health, these points will also cause every felled enemy to respawn.
Furthermore, the checkpoints are sparsely placed and there's no way to fast travel in the game.
All in all, this ensures that there's no easy way to check out an area of a map without facing new resistance, which seems to work against the game's Metroidvania-inspired style, as appears to heavily incentivise exploration and revisiting areas.
Fallen Order gets so, so much right in terms of its world-building, characters, and surprisingly challenging combat, but the checkpointing makes navigating the environments feel like a damn chore at times.
