10 Things That Prove EA Have Completely Lost Their Way
4. Day-One DLC
One of EA's biggest problems as a company is their focus on DLC and getting more from a game. Although DLC isn't always a bad thing, releasing it on the first day of a game's release is definitely a good example for where it goes too far.
Day-One DLC is worse than ordinary DLC because it is clearly content that has been cut from the game to be sold separately. How else would it be possible for the DLC to be bought on day one?
The worst example of this came with Mass Effect 3 and the story DLC 'From Ashes'. This DLC featured an incredibly important character and a really interesting story thread, but was somehow cut out of the game and provided as DLC just to make EA more money.
This is a practise that EA are still continuing even now, with The Sims 4 having at least five different DLC packs available at launch. Why wasn't this content left in the game instead of making gamers pay for the privilege of getting the full experience? Because EA is a business first and a publisher second.
