10 Things The Perfect Star Wars Game MUST Include

6. A Refined Morality System

Morality is at the heart of Star Wars as the way a character behaves generally dictates which label is applied to them. Frees slaves, protects royalty and leads peace negotiations: Jedi. Slaughters younglings, chokes the staff and attempting filicide: Sith. Simple really.

But, actually, it isn't all that simple as Ahsoka Tano's presence in Star Wars: Rebels confirms that 'Gray Jedi' exist within the Star Wars canon. Gray Jedi don't prescribe to either of the fixed schools of thought (Light/Dark side) and literally occupy a morally grey area - in brief, they'd free the slaves but they would probably gut the slavers too.

The best known Star Wars RPG, Knights of the Old Republic, didn't really capture the notion of Gray Jedi (despite Jolee... don't go there) as players were awarded buffs if they reached Light or Dark side mastery. Force point discounts came from using powers that corresponded with their choice, but those in the middle got next to nothing so there was no incentive.

There's much more to morality than just good & bad - there's seven 'Deadly Sins', for example. Consider purity and corruption: even the lightest Jedi probably enjoy a bacon sandwich over a lump of tofu so there's a lot more to it than just buffing the light/dark masters - give Gray a chance!
