10 Things To Love And Hate About The Spyro Reignited Trilogy
3. Love: The Faithful Gameplay
There isn't a huge amount that has been notably altered when it comes to the general gameplay of the series, and that is usually to the remake's benefit. Sure, the animations have been tightened up a little, but the soul of the games that we all remember are retained, refined and polished up for the modern era of consoles.
This leads to a definite familiarity where it isn't even as though you need to re-learn or alter your play style from last time round : - it all just comes straight back. The decision not to add or remove any of the major game play actions is definitely a bold one, but one that can be argued paid off.
By instead just smoothing out some of the sharper edges, you get thrown straight back into the tight, reactive ground controls and the smooth gliding animations that let you feel entirely in control.
None of the nit-picks or minor complaints (except for the flying controls) come anywhere close to making this aspect of the reignited trilogy anything less than a clear lesson in why nostalgia isn't always just rose-tinted glasses. Sometimes, it's remembering how good these games really were for their time.
