3. Melee Combat Is A Good Way To Manage Groups
As mentioned earlier, at this stage in Uncharted's lifespan Naughty Dog only need to change very minor things to make the general feel of gameplay pop in new and fresh ways, much the same as their runaway successes Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter. For Uncharted, that meant by the time Drake's Deception rolled around, the team had taken to fleshing melee combat out to allow for environmental finishers, grapple attacks and multi-directional throws. It helped give you more fun options to deal with thugs, although the focus was very much still on shooting and taking cover. For Uncharted 4 - and this is obviously only the multiplayer so far - each hit has been amped up damage-wise, so you only need to hit someone twice to knock them down, opening them up for a thunderous finishing kick. Chances are the full game will still have you grappling with foes, countering them, stealing weapons and throwing any remainders into the environment, but if not, this snappier 'hit hard and keep going' approach only emphasises the pace inherent to what playing Uncharted feels like more than ever.
