10 Things We Desperately Hope To See In The Mortal Kombat Film
5. The OTHER Sub-Zero
The blue-robed cryomancer, Sub-Zero, has been one of the most popular characters in Mortal Kombat since the get-go. He may have appeared in the original films, Mortal Kombat and... (sigh) Mortal Kombat: Annihilation but his backstory was barely explored. This is a shame since the Lin Kuei grandmaster's origin is fascinating.
After Scorpion became convinced the original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han, murdered his family, Scorpion killed him. When Bi-Han's brother, Kuai Liang, learned this, he took on the mantle of Sub-Zero and entered the Mortal Kombat to exact revenge on Scorpion. When both ninjas realise they were manipulated to be at each other's throats, the sworn enemies became blood brothers.
Screenwriter Greg Russo has confirmed the Sub-Zero that appears in the film is Bi-Han. Since he is a major antagonist, it's likely the ice-blasting ninja will find himself on the receiving end of a Toasty before the credits roll.
If that's the case, the story should make reference to Kuai Liang to set up his vendetta with Scorpion in a sequel. If there is a flashback of the brother's training during their time with the Lin Kuei, there could also be a cameo from other iconic kombatants like Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, or Frost.
