4. Johnny Cage's Surprise Reveal
The Mortal Kombat trailer may have received a ton of praise but that doesn't mean it didn't have its critics.
Yes, the violence is gore-geous and the fatalities are creative... but where the hell was Johnny Cage? Considering Cage is a fan-favourite, it's peculiar the film has incorporated every playable character from the original game except for the Jean Claude Van Damme wannabe. His banter with Sonya Blade is a major highlight and he is regarded as the as funniest character in the franchise. So what gives?
Well, since the adaptation is trying to be more serious, having a Hollywood actor cracking jokes and pounding fighters in the crotch may undercut the tone. But because Cage is so beloved, it would be unwise to cut him out of the story entirely.
Many fans speculate he is in the film somewhere and the studio is just being quiet about it. Some people speculate that the protagonist, Cole, will be revealed to be Cage. Even if this isn't the case, there will hopefully be some allusion to the shade-wearing action hero that sets up his appearance in the follow-up.
