10 Things WWE 2K17 Needs More Than Goldberg

7. Less Focus On 'Mini-Games' Within Matches

WWE games look better than ever from a presentation standpoint (pesky hair and occasionally jarring animations aside). Those who lived through the days of WWF War Zone could only have dreamed that things would look this good years later, it seemed like things would never top that PS1 classic.

They have, but things begin to falter when the bell actually rings. Matches are built with simulation in mind, but 2K must do a better job of finding balance. Matches in 2K16 were bogged down by countless 'mini games' and 'struggles' which just served to break up the action and turn proceedings into a formulaic affair.

The gameplay in SmackDown: Here Comes The Pain would be a brilliant example of wrestling gameplay done correctly. There were simulation elements, such as the body damage system, but the game also had an arcade sensibility that just worked a treat.

It's frustrating to go through the same slog in WWE games now, things shouldn't be that way. The actual matches shouldn't let the side down, they should add to the sometimes jaw-dropping presentation on offer.
