10 Things You Didn't Know About Batman: Arkham City
6. Rocksteady Knew Robin Would Be Divisive
Outside of comics (and sometimes even in them), the idea of Batman always coming with a Robin has divided creatives and fans alike. Perhaps partly down to The Dark Knight's solo movies (as well as the lingering memories of the Batman and Robin movie), the superhero has mostly been portrayed as someone who works alone, and audiences have come to find the likes of Robin a hard sell.
This, of course, is something Rocksteady knew before including the character in this game. Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Sefton Hill conceded that not only did the team realise that the sidekick would be met with resistance from some fans, but that some inside their own team may not be totally thrilled with the character's inclusion.
The director confessed how much he personally loved the hero, but acknowledged others may need more convincing, saying:
"It's actually incredible how divisive a character he is, but I think done well and done right, he's got the potential to be an awesome character."
That could explain why he only shows up for a cameo and in the challenge rooms for the sequel, as the studio analysed whether the audience would accept a bigger bat family.
