While many longtime fans of the Fallout franchise eagerly anticipated a sequel to 2008's Fallout 3, sales figures suggest that for the majority of players, Fallout 4 was their first trip to the post-apocalyptic wastes.

With that in mind, It's important to note that several characters that featured in the previous game made their way into the Massachusetts wastes in Fallout 4. And in terms of lore, this makes a lot of sense.

After all, geographically the Commonwealth isn't too far away from the Capital Wasteland so it's more than likely that trade routes between the two vestiges of pre-war America are interconnected.

Perhaps the most interesting return is that of Robert MacCready. In Fallout 3, MacCready is a foul-mouth ten-year-old armed with an assault rifle and tasked with being the mayor of Little Lamplight, a settlement entirely populated by children.

However, by Fallout 4 MacCready has reached adulthood and can be recruited by the Sole Survivor as a companion, and has for the most part shed the often surly disposition that he exhibited back at Little Lamplight.
