10 Things You Should Know About Dating A Gamer

9. Don't Say Anything Important During A Game

If you want to talk to your partner about something, whether it's the shopping list for next week or something super-serious, it's probably best not to do it while they're getting their ass handed to them on the final mission of Ninja Gaiden. With the ridiculous level of concentration needed to beat the game on the best of days, you're not going to get any quality conversation out of them during that time, and even if they pause the game, they're going to be so eager to get back to it that they'll just pawn you off with the most compliant, succinct answers you want to hear possible.

On the converse, if the relationship goes sour and you want to take some of their DVDs when you move out, asking them while they're playing the game is probably pretty smart. Just don't expect your partner to remember anything you've said during gameplay; either get it all out before they start a session, or more preferably, wait until they're finally done, because they'll probably be in a better mood anyway.
