10 Things You Should Know About Dating A Gamer

2. Cut-Scenes Are Not An Invitation To Talk

There's something of a casual assumption held by non-gamers that a cut-scene in a video game is in no way tantamount to a scene from a movie, that they're just pretty distractions that, you know, don't have anything like a story, characters, witty dialogue or the typical hallmarks that comprise a good narrative. There's this collective cultural assumption that games are "lesser" than movies, and while a lot of the time this is true, is there really anything more infuriating than someone walking into your room mid-cutscene and trying to talk your ear off?

If it's a game you're greatly invested in, it will inspire frantic screaming of "Get the f**k out!", and it's all the worse if the game doesn't have a pause menu for cut-scenes, as many still horrifically don't. Thank Hideo that Konami used this feature on Metal Gear Solid 4; can you imagine if your partner walked in wanting to talk during that ending?

It's a good lesson to learn quickly, though, because there's nothing more frustrating than having to flick the subtitles on just to understand what's going on, while also trying to filter out inconsequential chit-chat.
