Despite generally being linked to younger players and casual gamers, Minecraft still maintains a pretty diverse audience. As a sandbox title in the truest sense of the world, it's not difficult to see why a game like this continues to consume its players' time.

With very little guidance offered upon your first experience of the game, Minecraft gives you a freedom to act that's rare in games these days. However, we know that that alone doesn't guarantee longevity - just ask Sean Murray and No Man's Sky - so how is Minecraft doing it?

Well, in a chicken-and-egg type scenario, Minecraft is also well-sustained because of its players. The incredible creations of the Minecraft community are almost inspirational; each time someone recreates the Death Star or Minas Tirith, someone else comes along to try to top it.

Minecraft's customisable freedom allows players to do pretty much anything they set their mind to, and these players in-turn spur each other on to keep coming back for more. It's the circle of life...
