10 Times Dark Souls Games BRUTALLY Tricked You
4. Flying Nightjar - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Though Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a slight departure from FromSoftware’s previous games in terms of style, tone, and a handful of gameplay tweaks, Sekiro was nevertheless a Soulsborne game at its core. It still contained fantastical areas to explore, convoluted character side quests, and hard-as-nails bosses that will punish you for the slightest mistake.
Sekiro
likewise contained a handful of FromSoftware’s signature traps, too; and while they’re
used more sparingly here, these traps were some of the developer’s best and
funniest ever.
One of the best gotcha moments came during an intense section in which players were tasked with infiltrating the heavily guarded Ashina Castle by grappling across the rooftops. Here, Sekiro is faced with a group of agile Nightjar Ninjas lying in wait. Clear the area and the path to the castle should be safe – or so it would seem.
Just when players think they’re free from danger, an excited cheer is heard seconds before one remaining Nightjar swoops down through the air in a devious surprise attack.
It turns out that this dedicated enemy has been waiting for you on an innocuous looking kite. Hilarious and unexpected, everybody falls victim to this trap at some point.
