10 Times Dark Souls Games BRUTALLY Tricked You

2. Flaming Barrel Trap - Dark Souls

It doesn’t take long for players to learn that they’re in for an arduous journey after beginning their adventure in Dark Souls. Not only does the beginning of the game throw a massive boss in their face before players even have a working weapon, flatten them with a surprise boulder, but unknowing players may even wonder straight into the Catacombs before realising the path to the Undead Burg, the low-levelled area, was behind them the entire time.

Being Dark Souls, however, the Undead Burg still didn’t make things especially easy. This place is a crash course in what to expect from the rest of the game with surprise ambushes, tough enemies meant to be tackled later, and a massive fire breathing dragon that blocks a bridge. However, the Undead Burg still has one devastatingly devilish trick up its sleeve to trip players up.

Around the halfway mark through this area, players will be met with a small horde of enemies gathered nearby a set of stairs leading up. Upon venturing up said stairs, though, a troublemaking hollow will push a flaming barrel down those same stairs to collide with the player that they won't see coming.
