10 Times Just Not Giving A F**K Gave Us Great Video Games
4. Metal Gear Solid
Wouldn't you have loved to have been there when Hideo Kojima initially pitched Metal Gear Solid? To see the man himself try and explain why he made a simple stealth game so crazy would really be something worth witnessing. Of course, it worked flawlessly and Metal Gear Solid became a gaming legend. At it's core, Metal Gear Solid is about one man infiltrating an island in order to prevent nuclear disaster. Of course, like all good spy thrillers, it also features psychic characters, twin clones, a man with one arm and a badass ninja. On paper, Metal Gear Solid just sounds like a mess. Nothing could be further from the truth. The characters and the story combine to create something truly unique and breathtakingly exciting; it's a game that constantly surprises you. After all, this is a game that asks you to look on the back of the game case to find necessary information to continue with the game. Kojima's love of breaking the fourth wall is well known by now and some of his best work is found here. You've probably heard about the Psycho Mantis boss fight, even if you've never played Metal Gear Solid before. That's a shame, actually, as you'll never experience the sheer panic the boss fight forces on you when Mantis grasps control of Snake from you or looks into your mind and sees all the Konami games you've played before. These sort of moments have come to define the series and they could only have happened under the helm of a man who isn't afraid to think outside the box.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
