In the 2018 Tomb Raider movie, we get a reimagining of the 2013 reboot game. In this film we discover that Himiko wasn’t a supernatural being, but was in fact a woman who had been infected with a deadly virus. She had sealed herself in the tomb so that she wouldn’t infect anybody else. The shady organisation Trinity, led by Mathias Vogel, wanted to harness Himiko’s power and use the virus as a bioweapon.

Vogel snaps of a finger from Himiko’s body and puts it in a plastic pouch before making his escape. Lara’s father, Richard, becomes infected and decides to stay behind to make sure Himiko’s body will never see the light of day and Lara chases after Vogel to prevent him escaping with the finger.

She catches up to him and blocks off his exit and the two begin to fight. It seems like Vogel is about to overpower her but Richard blows the tomb up and causes a brief distraction which allows Lara to break free and manage to get hold of the bag containing the finger which she shoves down Vogel’s throat.

Lara stands and watches as Vogel chokes and becomes infected. As he turns into a horrifying zombie creature, Lara kicks him in the face and he falls off the precipice into the chasm below.

Simon is a writer, cat dad and presenter of a geeky radio show with his husband. He loves Doctor Who (except 10 who can get in the bin…only joking.) He idolises Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Lara Croft and would 100% be a Sith Lord in a galaxy far, far away. He wishes life was like a musical so he’d actually be a good singer.
