10 Times Nintendo Games Were Not Family Friendly

8. Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)

A scantily-clad curvaceous female hero using various pointy things and shooty things to brutalise her enemies in a shower of blood while spouting obscenities at every opportunity? Sounds like classic Nintendo fare to me…

Bayonetta 2 is a great action game in the vein of classics such as Devil May Cry, starring the titular witch in her second outing, and her first entry on a Nintendo system. Indeed, when a series features your main female character essentially naked at times while attacking her foes, it’s no surprise that the announcement that the new entry was an exclusive to the Wii U caused some raised eyebrows. However, while glorifying in the adult content of the game, developers Platinum Games also crafted a masterpiece of the genre, with the action barely letting up for a second.

Games like this one were Nintendo’s attempt to cater to the core gamer audience on Wii U, but unfortunately the much-maligned GamePad controller (along with the company’s general reputation) caused many gamers to be turned off before they could give the console a chance. Still, there are some gems in the Wii U’s library, and this is one of the brightest shining.
