10 Times Video Game Critics Got It Wrong

7. Mass Effect: Andromeda

Zelda Skyward Sword Metacritic
Bioware

Metacritic Score: 7.1

User Score: 4.8

This one is still as much of a surprise now as it was when it happened.

After reading some pretty good reviews of Mass Effect: Andromeda, fans were all ready to finally experience another great game in one of BioWare's best franchises.

What they got was a complete mess of a game that could barely be played, let alone be given a good score.

Andromeda launched with so many glitches and problems that it was completely unacceptable. Gameplay was pretty standard Mass Effect fare, but the lack of an interesting story and all of the production issues made it a really poor experience.

Reviews for Andromeda didn't light the world on fire, but still spoke of a pretty good game that would keep long-time fans of the series happy whilst taking Mass Effect in a new direction. That certainly didn't happen.

Mass Effect: Andromeda basically killed off the Mass Effect series, which is crazy when you consider that the first three games are remembered as one of gaming's best trilogies.
