10 Times Video Game Developers Lied Straight To Your Face

7. Star Wars Battlefront 2's Empire-Focused Campaign

Though the brunt of complaints about Star Wars Battlefront 2 concerned its multiplayer and EA's implementation of loot boxes, one that snuck under the radar was just how much the developers dropped the ball on the main campaign.

Including one after fans complained about its absence in the original reboot, the single-player mode sounded as though it was going to be pretty unique. Showing the universe from the side of the Empire for once, the story was set to cast players as the villain rather than the hero, with the developers and writers promising that they were committed to this perspective and wouldn't go with a predictable plot twist of the character switching sides.

Of course, that's exactly what ended up happening. While the opening of the game lived up to its promise of letting players fight alongside the Empire, it only took about half the campaign before they were forced to join the Light Side and work with the rebels, essentially following the same path as every other Star Wars game before it.
