10 Times Video Game DLC Was Better Than The Main Story

3. Hearts Of Stone - Witcher III

The Witcher III has some interesting ideas when it comes to story, but it doesn't truly excel in the ways that you'd hope. Everyone is quick to tout the Baron's quest-line as being the best of the best, but the rest of the game never quite reaches those heights again. Which is why Hearts of Stone is so good.

It is probably the closest the game gets to capturing the fairytale aspects of the books and as a result excels because of it. It is like stepping into one of the stories. It tells a compelling and intricate story, whilst not bloating itself with useless fluff; a problem the main campaign suffered from.

DLC is very much a chance for a developer to compact the experience of the main game into a tighter experience. And Hearts of Stone very much does that. It cuts the crap and makes a compelling story, interwoven with the game's already exceptional combat. And creates one of the most interesting characters the game has to offer in O'dimm.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
