10 Times Video Game Franchises Were Rebooted Into The Worst Thing Ever

8. Duke Nukem Forever

Duke Nukem should have never left the nineties.

The long-in-development Duke Nukem Forever is technically a sequel, but really it was an attempt to reboot the franchise for modern audiences, going so far as to remake the entire final boss from Duke Nukem 3D in its opening mission.

The problem was that this version of Duke was a far-cry from the wise-cracking meat head fans adored in the previous decade. Gone was the irreverent and biting humour in favour of a new incarnation of the iconic character who came across as a kind of pathetic, mean-spirited 'edge-lord'.

Instead of riffing on pop culture in a loving way, Forever took potshots at other games and dated celebrity scandals that were far above the station of even this two-bit release.

It didn't help that the game itself was rubbish as well, playing like a shooter that wouldn't have felt fresh even if it had came out in the early 2000s - when it was supposed to.
