10 Times Video Game Publishers Insulted Their Fans
6. Epic Games' Cancellation Of Paragon
Off the back of a lull in interest due to a series of then-recent changes, Epic prefaced the arrival of 2018 with an outwardly positive rundown of Paragon's previous 12 months, promising big things to come, including the MOBA's full launch. It was a tone that changed not long after, when Epic revealed that it was unsure of how to grow the game's appeal and needed the community's help to move its new IP in the right direction.
Barely a few weeks following, Epic announced with "heavy hearts" that it had opted to cancel the game outright, citing an unsustainable player base and its own failure to deliver the goods. Cue the onslaught of disappointed fans that accused Epic of stringing its players along, promising a bright future for Paragon despite having knowledge of the grim reality.
Worse still, Epic had, just months before, struck gold with Fortnite and, by its own admission, moved several of Paragon's team members to the battle royale title to handle its popularity.
Whether or not Epic knew of the game's cancellation despite remaining steadfastly positive remains cloudy, but that doesn't change the fact that it handled the event poorly, leaving the impression that it had jumped ship and abandoned its promises the moment something better came along.
