10 Times Video Games Got Weapons Wrong
3. The Unseen Arrow Is The Deadliest - The Last Of Us
I know it may be blasphemy to say NaughtyDog did anything wrong when crafting the multi-award-winning masterpiece that is The Last of Us, but unfortunately nothing can ever be perfect in today's cynical landscape.
Fighting bandits, the infected and each other along the way, The Last of Us sees you use anything and everything at your disposal to survive. During the first act of the game you seek out a car from a nearby town, only to discover a bow and a quiver of arrows while traversing some rooftops.
A bow is the favourite toy for players in any video game with decent sneaking mechanics - just see Far Cry 3, Skyrim and Horizon: Zero Dawn - but in The Last of Us it is almost vital to use the bow to remain hidden from the horrors of the world for as long as possible.
A strange feature that is attached to the bow, however, is that it does more damage so long as Joel is hidden. How could an arrow fired from the same distance away at the same velocity and hitting the same part of the body be either a killing blow or a mere wound depending on whether or not the enemy can see you?
