If you want a sum total of everything Borderlands fans were afraid 3 was gonna turn out like, then look no further than Destiny 2.

Gameplay wise, it's actually a rock solid online looter shooter, so at least you could have a modicum of fun with it. But the story, weapons, armor, and pretty much anything else worth a damn in this game was hacked off and sold back to you for more money than they were worth. But the worst of these offenses was by far the Eververse Engrams.

Before it was released, Destiny 2 rewarded the player for playing the game longer with better equipment, like any good looter shooter. But when the Eververse store opened, suddenly bits of in game armor sets were locked behind a paywall. If you wanted a full set of certain armors, then you had to shill out the cash to pay for them. And it's not even guaranteed that you'll get it because it's completely random.

This wouldn't hurt as much if armor pieces in Destiny 2 often carry special perks. Which, of course, further tempts the player to keep rolling the dice until they get what they need. Nothing short of predatory mechanics.
