10 Times You Bought The Wrong Video Game INTENTIONALLY
5. Buying Metal Gear Solid For The Silent Hill Demo
It’s hard to imagine a world where Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill are unknown franchises, right?
And yet, these Konami-owned behemoths of the games industry were once considered gambles, games where reputations and bank balances were at stake in equal measure, before both the PlayStation console and brand took the world by storm, facilitating the fame of these real superstars.
Metal Gear Solid came in a chunky big ol’ four-disk case, but hiding inside that last slot was a demo for the upcoming, alleged “scariest game ever made”. In the late 90s, magazines referred to Silent Hill as “an adult revolution” in horror, and I personally recall reading that it was perhaps going to be banned in the UK for being just... just too pant-brining.
So, when MGS ended up reviewing extremely well, it came as a huge relief to horror fans everywhere that preordered Snake’s first PlayStation outing in order to get a taste of Harry Mason’s Crap Dad Simulator. When they were kept up all night freaking out about getting big Hazzer’s daughter out of hell alive, they had one of the best damned stealth games ever made to hand to keep their insomnia company!
