If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my *looks at watch* oh, five-hundred years on this Earth, is that if you have an old game people loved, re-releasing it in any capacity (port, remaster, remake) is like releasing a gumdrop that gives you an orgasm - that is to say, it’ll inevitably be very, very popular.

Folk love rebuying nostalgia so much that we’re in a bit of a Remaster Era now, but it’s not unique to 2020 - in 2002, the handheld re-release of A Link To The Past caused quite a stir. However, more innovation-first gamers noticed a little game called Four Swords, the very first stand-alone multiplayer Zelda game, was a pack-in title, a game in which rival Links competed for rupees.

Though Four Swords was a modest affair, it spawned a full release sequel, Four Swords Adventures (which used the GBA-GameCube link cable) and later, Triforce Heroes, each games which built on Four Swords’ fundamentals.

At the time, playing a Zelda game with a pal seemed too good to be true... but after that devious sod nicked all your rupees for the sixth time, having that solo Zelda port packed in was a damned welcome reprieve.
