10 Times You HATED Yourself For Buying A Video Game
8. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5
Once upon a time, the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series was a critical and commercial juggernaut, though most of that goodwill sadly evaporated when the series transitioned from original developers Neversoft to Robomodo.
Their first major release, Tony Hawk: Ride, introduced a skateboarding peripheral in an attempt to diversify the series, though both the game and the controller itself were largely panned by critics.
Less than a year later, Tony Hawk: Shred was released, which once again used the skateboard peripheral and, out of sheer desperation, included a snowboarding mode. Again, it was pilloried by the few reviewers who actually bothered to play it.
Robomodo followed this up with the promising Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD - an HD remake featuring content from the original three games - but it ultimately turned out to be a lackluster attempt to tweak players' nostalgia receptors.
When Robomodo eventually announced Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 and promised it would be a return to form for the series, then, players had only themselves to blame for actually taking the developer at their word.
Not to be outdone, THPS5 was by far the worst-reviewed game in the series, criticised for its obtuse controls, uninspired level design, mediocre graphics, and abundance of bugs.
Most fans knew that it wasn't going to live up to the originals, but the skating game genre is so sparse these days that many threw their cash down regardless, only to be left fuming at the end result.
