10 Trailers That Completely Misrepresented Their Video Games

6. Killzone 2

Killzone 2 is an interesting entry on this list because it is one of the first games to kick off a huge controversy over the usage of a vertical slice of gameplay that didn’t disclose that it would not reflect the final product. The 2005 E3 trailer was mind-blowingly impressive for the time with graphics the likes of which had never been seen up until this point. It all seemed too good to be true.

And unfortunately, it absolutely was. But the story is a bit more complex than the trailer's infamy.

Though Guerilla Games learned a hard lesson about misleading their fans as the resulting game was a significant graphical downgrade and fans found out the trailer had not been created in-engine, this one is a special case because the game was actually really good. Even though the graphics weren’t as stunning as people expected them to be, Killzone 2 proved to be a more than worthwhile shooter with fantastic review scores across the board praising it for its technological advancements, visceral gameplay, and engaging multiplayer.

It’s a bit of a Cinderella story for Guerrilla as the initial hubbub over the admittedly misleading trailer and resulting controversy was overshadowed by a game that was well worth the price of admission.
