10 Unbelievably Scary Video Game Locations Discovered By Hackers

5. Developer Testing Map - Dark Souls: Remastered

Dark Souls' signature gothic architecture may be both bleak and beautiful, but Lance McDonald struck again by digging into the guts of the game's remaster and exploring the maps hidden within the game code.

There were 17 unused maps all in all, which upon closer inspection appear to be areas for FromSoftware's developers to test out various gameplay elements.

While the environments here largely lack the towering constructions of the main game, the black void that replaces them is plenty creepy itself, especially as it contains a number of unsettling statues, unused enemies, a room full of corpses, and worst of all, the giant freaking crow you briefly encounter in the game proper.

That there are actual creatures banished to this empty void makes it all the more unsettling, rather than if it had been a simple dev testing ground bereft of life.
