Sabata is a spaghetti western that much like Sergio Corbucci's Django deserves to earn a cult status. Big, colourful and always sure to keep attention, this Lee Van Cleef vehicle seems to take that extra step above the standard western with a host of memorable and unique characters and innovative weapons that wouldn't be out of place of a James Bond flick.

Lee Van Cleef this time gets to play the mysterious stranger who walks into town, he has a name though, it's Sabata. His motivations are not entirely clear when first introduced but we soon learn that he has a sharp gun hand and an ability to make lots of money as a result of this. This of course earns him an eventual showdown with evil mastermind Stengel who holds an iron grip over the town.

In true spaghetti western fashion, the body count piles up rather quickly but perhaps more unusually is the effort put into Gianfranco Parolini's supporting cast. There's Banjo, a man with a musical instrument more deadly than a Honky Tonk Man or Jeff Jarrett guitar shot to the head.

Carrincha, a drunk war veteran with an ability to produce throwing knives out of thin air. The mute Alley Cat who performs some amazing acrobatics through the course of the film. Then there's the matter of Sabata's unique weapon which will make you ask 'Where does he get those wonderful toys?'

Oh and there's a catchy theme song to kick the whole proceedings off too...
