10 Unfair Dark Souls Enemies

8. Basilisks - All Three Games

You Died 3
FromSoftware

A mainstay of the series and making an appearance in all three games, these frog-like creatures didn’t pose a threat because of any direct attack they had. They didn’t hit hard, they took few hits to kill and you had to get supremely unlucky to die to them directly.

What they are more infamous for is an attack that built up the player’s curse status. Although this mechanic existed in Dark Souls 2 too, the effect was a lot less brutal – you lost some health and became more hollow.

In the first and third games, once that curse bar filled up, you died. Instantly. Leaving behind a petrified statue and a great sense of remorse. In the original game, once you were cursed, even after dying, harsh penalties remained. Your health was halved and a skull replaced the humanity counter on your bar.

While there were no lasting penalties in Dark Souls 3, there were a few more locations where these enemies were bunched together and it became fairly easy to get overwhelmed and surrounded with no way to avoid the curse-clouds being spat all around you.
