10 Unique Horror Video Games You Need To Play
5. Dead Space
Dead Space is the title that became known for innovating what a user-interface could be. No more clunky bars, no pause menus or ammo counters, instead, it's all neatly folded into Isaac's suit, showing up as in-world holographic displays that Isaac interacts with.
It's a little detail like that which we take for granted these days, a feature which enables the immersion to be built upon, as we scramble through our 3D map looking for an exit, as opposed to breaking said immersion in a safe menu.
It makes this list because of its incredible ability to excel in the realm of
immersion, world-building and – when you’re not shooting, exploding or blasting
necromorphs – tension.
As well as protecting the player's experience, Dead Space features some of the more intricate level design of an action-horror game, not dissimilar from Resident Evil.
You'll be creeping through the gruesomely designed environments of a broken space ship crawling with monsters, scavenging for ammo and currency, wondering, "Is that body really dead?"
