10 Unique Horror Video Games You Need To Play

4. Alien: Isolation

Alien is another title that took from Amnesia and bolted certain new bits onto the design.

Now we’ve got run-and-hide gameplay mixed in with a film, as well as leaning into technology such as a heartbeat sensor, flamethrower and Working Joe androids.

The beauty of Alien: Isolation is that it’s so heavily wrapped up in the film. This meant that even if it failed as a game, which it absolutely does not, you’d still be able to shrug it off and say, “Hey, I just got chased around by the Xenomorph.”

But again, the game doesn’t fail, it perfectly mimics the relationship of hunter vs. prey, barely scraping by as you hear the Xenomorph rattle in a vent above you, or as you just catch a glimpse of its tail around the edge of a desk.

That’s what’s so special about Isolation - you’re fighting against something you know, that every horror fan knows, the perfect organism. On top of that, you’re then given some beautiful mechanics to play around with and areas of your character to actually progress and increase in, such as your weaponry and equipment.
