10 Unpopular Opinions That’ll Make Gamers Rage

1. Grand Theft Auto Has Hit A Creative Dead End

I've already covered how the ludicrousness of Saints Row far outweighs that of GTA, and how by being completely brash and honest about wanting to create a stupidly-fun title has meant the latter two Row titles have vastly more enjoyable moments than that of GTA.

It's all down to the forked path that was GTA: San Andreas, as while Saints Row took the most incongruous parts of that game and fine-tuned their entire franchise around it, it left Rockstar free to tackle more serious stories, characters and locations.

Now, GTA IV remains a fairly divisive title, with just as many supporters as detractors popping up whenever it's mentioned in this context, but regardless of that objectively it's very much a 'reigned in' version of where it seemed like San Andreas was heading.

For GTA V the big selling point in the lead-up were the heist missions, which turned out to be pretty damp squibs, and as we're stillwaiting for the online version of them to drop, it forces you to look back on what GTA V actually did right, and what it contributed to the forward-momentum of the franchise, to which outside a very detailed world; wasn't very much at all.

Genre-rivals Sleeping Dogs may have had arcade-based driving, but it knew how to deliver some genuinely fun, replayable gameplay comprised of tight shooting and brawler beat 'em up melee combat. How many times have you gone back through GTA V's missions to collect the medals, or to do a particular section over again?

It speaks for itself how burnt out we all are on overused mission-types, that if you're still playing this long after release it's either for a random crime-spree or the separate online mode.
