10 Upcoming 2018 Video Games That Will Struggle To Live Up To The Hype

1. Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Square Enix

The fact that a FF VII remake is on the horizon at all is testament to the notion that if you ask and ask and ask (and ask) for something enough, the likelihood is, someone will eventually cave and give you exactly that.

On your head be it, Final Fantasy-ites.

In any case, this is up there with Balboa and Creed throwing down at the end of Rocky Three, it’s on a par with the Twin Peaks reboot, it’s almost as exciting as Atomic Kitten’s reunion tour. It’s video game nirvana for Square Enix fans.

Of course, several concerns are afoot. Firstly, and this will annoy the progressives out there, but one of the things that made the first Final Fantasy games so popular was its turn-based battle system, and a shift to the real-time combat format in more recent titles hasn’t been graciously accepted by all.

The VII remake will employ this same system, akin to what we’ve seen in Final Fantasy XV before it, and while it’s fun to imagine seeing Cloud Strife swing the comically large Braver blade at his foes in close-up high definition, it’s at risk of spoiling what some consider to be perfection already.

Like letting a friend drive your car, it’s fine, it honestly is fine... I’d just rather you not.
