10 Upcoming 2019 Video Games We're Incredibly Worried About
5. Shenmue III
Release Date: August 27
If you care remotely about the video game industry, you should want Shenmue III to be a success, even if you have no interest in playing it.
It's the sort of game that shouldn't really even exist, given the commercial failure of the first two titles and the near-two decades it took director Yu Suzuki to get a third game greenlit.
And as exciting as Shenmue III's mere existence is, it's tough to shake the feeling that the final game will probably end up a messy disappointment.
In fairness, the first two games were pretty janky affairs - as the recent HD Remaster is a shocking reminder of - but Shenmue III's shrunken-down budget and fairly lackluster snippets of gameplay so far don't paint an encouraging picture of a game due out in just 10 months.
Many fans will be incredibly forgiving of Shenmue III's likely rough presentation, but even so, there's no guarantee the end product will present the quirky charm of its predecessors.
Much like Kingdom Hearts III, you'd be smart to expect a merely decent game if you want to avoid feeling completely crestfallen on August 27 next year.
