6. Super Mario 3D World (December)
Following a similar style to the 2011 Nintendo 3DS title Super Mario 3D Land, Super Mario 3D world is broached between 3D exploration and 2D side-scrolling, a bizarre mix of the two that, if its massively acclaimed predecessor is any indication, should be a massive hit and considerable unit-shifter for the Wii U. Gamers will be able to play as either Mario, Luigi, Peach or Toad, and the beauty of it is that each character has their own strengths and weaknesses; Toad, for instance, can run extremely fast, but is also terrible at jumping. It's this level of balance that I hope will make this one of the best multiplayer Nintendo games in recent memory. The team-based aspect of the game sounds like a lot of fun; you share a pool of extra lives, and characters can pick one another up to help then reach new areas. This has the potential to be a fantastic party game if it's implemented properly.
