After what has felt like a few thousand's worth of marathons through James Cameron's multi-billion dollar series, we finally have a name, teaser trailer and (vaguely touted) release date for Avatar's step into the open-world genre.

Taking place entirely outside the lore of the movies, Frontiers of Pandora is set to feature players taking control of The Na'Vi across the Western Frontier, a part of the world never-before-seen on the big screen.

It's always so much more fun when a game takes inspiration from a movie, but doesn't piggyback off the characters and settings it made famous. And, with the next-gen technology powering it, the vivid floral aesthetics and fantastical beings residing in this mysterious part of Pandora should make for a thrilling experience.

From what's been teased so far, the storyline itself might not sound too alien with players attempting to battle RDA forces terrorising the area, but the creative licence that will come from a unique setting is sure to be enough for Frontiers of Pandora to feel like a worthwhile next-gen experience within the same universe as the films.

And hey, even if the game sucks, it's going to sell well - it's got 'Avatar' on the cover.
