If you aren't familiar with Journey to the West, you should be aware of its influence. This Chinese saga, which centres around the Monkey King embarking on a quest to find the holy scriptures, has inspired countless other work, including Dragon Ball, Pokemon, and Super Mario.

Because this 16th century tale is such a crucial piece of literature, it's a pity Journey to the West has never truly received the global recognition it deserves.

Hopefully, that should change with the release of Black Myth: Wukong. Everything we've seen in the trailers, from the Souls-based combat to the Colossus-inspired enemies looks phenomenal.

However, the element that impresses gamers most is the gushing graphics. The attention to detail on every hair fibre, skin texture, and piece of clothing is sure to keep the player utterly immersed. (It'll also make things much scarier when a kaiju lobs a boulder at you.)

What makes these visuals more impressive is the fact Black Myth was put together by unknown indie developer, Game Science. If an obscure developing team can make art this elegant, there's no excuse why big companies keep tossing out AAA titles with appalling graphics and janky animations.

With no confirmed release, it's likely Black Myth won't be released for up to a year. However, this is a good sign, since it means the developers have more time to make the already stunning visuals even better.
