10 Upcoming Video Games Doomed To Disappoint

1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (2014)

Konami tried to pull the wool over our eyes, but we all knew that The Phantom Pain was really going to turn out to be Metal Gear Solid V. What was less expected, though, was that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes would actually be incorporated into MGSV, in what is essentially a prologue to the larger game, The Phantom Pain.

The game will apparently boast an open-world gameplay style completely at odds with the more restrictive nature of the previous games in the series, an ambitious idea that certainly has the potential to fall flat if Hideo Kojima doesn't know what he's doing.

What's most worrying to me, though, is that this will hew away from the cinematic appeal of the franchise, and that way Kojima might risk alienating his core fanbase while attracting more casuals. Also, the decision not to bring David Hayter back to voice Big Boss - instead hiring Kiefer Sutherland to give a full facial performance as well - proved hugely unpopular with fans, and makes it clear that this is a bold attempt to take MGS in a different, potentially unsavoury direction. It's quite a risk indeed.
