2. The Last Guardian (2014)

The Last Guardian is the third game from Team Ico, the guys behind the superb titles Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. As a result, much hype has surrounded every morsel of footage we've seen from the game to date, which has been in development for over 6 years, and the first glimpses of which surfaced over 4 years ago.

Why is Team Ico's latest going to disappoint? I call it "Gran Turismo 5 Syndrome"; you delay a game long enough, insisting that it's still in development, and people either give up on it (ala Duke Nukem Forever) or the excitement builds to a fever-pitch.

Given the fandom behind these games, the hype certainly isn't going away, with rumours even suggesting that the game is being re-jigged for a PS4 release. If that proves unfounded, then expect The Last Guardian to release for the PS3 long past the point that we've all adopted the PS4 or Xbox One in the next year or so. The problematic development also indicates that perhaps the game's mechanics are just too ambitious and not functional enough.
