10 Upcoming Video Games Doomed To Disappoint
7. Watch Dogs (Nov 19)
Watch Dogs was far and away the most impressive thing shown off at E3 2012, a virtually unknown title that came out of nowhere and blew everyone away. With its Blade Runner-inspired visual style and ambitious concept, it seemed like GTA V would have a contender for Game of the Year for 2013, and while this is a distinct possibility, I can't help but think that developers Ubisoft have essentially set themselves up to fail. The little gameplay we've seen so far promsies so much scope and versatility that delivering anything even an iota short of that will annoy audiences.
The wildly ambitious premise gives the player the ability to influence technology around them, bending it to their will in order to steal money, evade the police and apprehend undesirables; it's a fantastic idea, though one that could so easily be stymied by invisible restrictions and a real lack of choice. In promoting such freedom to players, Watch Dogs could very well reinvent the gaming wheel, but short of doing that, it's going to be a disappointment. Fingers are most certainly crossed.
