10 Upcoming Video Games To Look Out For In May 2017

6. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows Of Valentia

What is it: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is the newest in the storied strategy franchise - a remake of one of the earliest chapters in the Fire Emblem series, 1992's Fire Emblem Gaiden for the Famicom.

Echoes stays faithful to the experimental systems of the original 8-bit release. As the second game in the series, Gaiden played loose with the rules of a strategy RPG and included features like dungeon crawling, world travel, and random battles. Twenty-five years later, revisiting those rules feels is a breath of fresh air for the franchise - they've all been faithfully recreated and remade for a modern presentation.

To offset the challenging difficulty of the previous era, Echoes also includes multiple ease of life features. Players can enable a casual mode, which disables permanent death, and use the divine Mila's Turn Wheel to rewind their choices if everything goes south.

As the final Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo 3DS, Echoes is a celebration of both the modern legacy and the classic legacy of the series. It's a game no fan would want to miss out on, and a spectacular point to learn just what this franchise is all about.

When's it coming out: Fire Emblem Echoes releases 19 May for the Nintendo 3DS.
