10 Upcoming Video Games We're Most Worried About
5. Shenmue III
It hurts to put this one here, but there are undoubtedly a lot of reasons to be a bit worried about the state of Shenmue III. After Shenmue II sold poorly in 2001 but became a cult classic, there had been a huge demand for the third game to arrive.
In 2015, those prayers were finally answered. Sometimes though, you need to be careful what you wish for. The Kickstarter broke all sorts of records, but the overall budget of $7 million doesn’t seem huge in the grand scheme of things, especially considering the drawn out development.
Release was initially scheduled for early 2018, before being moved to late 2018, and eventually changed to 27 August 2019. When that date came and went, 19 November 2019 was announced as the (hopefully final) release date.
Delays clearly mean the game is behind schedule, and with that comes further strain on the budget. Just how good the game will look, whether the gameplay will still hold up and whether it will actually be finished for its fast approaching launch date are all questions Shenmue III needs to answer.
Until then, fans are nervously crossing their fingers.
