4. Pokémon Sword & Shield
Pokémon’s road to their first full blown title on the Switch has been rough. Through Odyssey and Breath Of The Wild, Mario and Zelda threw down the gauntlet, and it’s fair to say Pokémon has baulked at the challenge.
Dexit has been the major controversy, at least in terms of headlines, but the majority of players don’t actually import old Pokémon anyway. Yes, we absolutely should be able to, but perhaps the consequences of an incomplete National PokéDex has been overstated.
What will affect every player though is the stale attack animations. Pokémon either jump, nod or wiggle, and this is supposed to represent the hundreds of different attacks. The Wild Area and Max Raid Battles sound intriguing, and while Dynamax feels like a sideways step from Megas, the Pokémon designs look set to save the day yet again.
Developments like sending ‘mons on jobs or collecting recipes feel a bit more like it, but the game’s biggest selling point remains Pokémon themselves.
The starters, Sirfetch’d, Galarian Weezing and of course Wooloo look set to bail Pokémon out.
